NICOLAS ROJAS, Editor
Hailing from Bogota, Colombia, Nicolas lived most of his life in a city where wilderness and clean air is almost non-existent. Perhaps it is for this reason that he is fascinated by nature and its many different expressions of life. This interest took him for many trips around his country where he learnt from others and nature itself, about different ways to perceive life. In 2007 he finished his studies in Fine Art with an emphasis in electronic media and time-based arts at Los Andes University in Bogota, Colombia. During his schooling he focused on video art, exploring ways to transform the video viewing experience. He found different ways to project video, created lo-tech instruments to achieve esthetic results, and made multi-channel video installations. He has shown his artwork in collective exhibitions at U. Nacional de Colombia, U. de los Andes and Sede de Uniandinos in Bogota; in Chicago at the Hoplite Gallery and the Mu-Fi Shorts Independent Music and Film Festival. He was selected for the 48th Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena and most recently for the Yoveo International Video Festival at the CSV Cultural Center in New York. After graduating he joined the animation team of Jaguar Taller Digital and worked on the TV series, Flotanautas.
In the process of his schooling and career, he gained experience creating visual effects and animations, while learning software like Final Cut, Motion, After Effects, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. A couple of months of working as an animator, the love for his future wife would send him on back and forth on trips between USA and Colombia. Becoming fluent in both Spanish and English, these trips gave him the opportunity to work in diverse jobs that included shooting video (for the short film Una posibilidad by Julián Sarmiento in Bogota,) text design (for the cookbook Requested Recipes from the Rosemont Inn in Chicago,) flash design (for United Logistics Services S.A. in Bogota,) and video editing. In 2010, he finally settled in Chicago and joined the Left Brain/Right Brain Productions core team.
Nicolas is passionate about the transmission of knowledge and experiences that may lead us to a better understanding of ourselves, to have a better relationship with others and to build a better communion with planet earth.
